Choosing
the Right Private Investigator
 |
|
Many people have
false, sometimes grandiose, ideas about what private
investigators do. For most people, their exposure
to the private detective industry is limited to the
television shows they’ve watched in the past. While
some of these shows hint at some of the activities
engaged in by today’s private investigator, most are
simply made for television make-believe.
If you don’t know much
about the private detective industry, how are you to
choose the right investigator for your needs? The
task can seem daunting. Those people who have never
had a need to hire an investigator may end up
perusing the city’s yellow pages looking for
something to differentiate one investigator from
another. Those in the legal or insurance
industries, having already established a working
relationship with a trusted investigator, may find
themselves calling upon that same investigator to
perform work in different areas in which the
investigator’s woefully incompetent.
You should ask these
questions when hiring an investigator:
- Are you a licensed private investigator?
- How long have you been in business?
- What is your area of specialty?
- Do you do this as a full or part time
business?
- Where is your office located?
- What credentials do you hold?
- Are you insured?
- What states or areas do you service?
- What are your hourly, mileage and expenditure
rates?
- What other costs if any should I expect?
- Is there an agreement or contract for
services?
