In today's competitive business environment, frivolous workers compensation claims, employee theft, shoplifting and poor employee performance can seriously hinder your companies reputation, and bottom line. Hurricane Alert ... Background Checks are important!

In the rush to hire people and fill positions after the hurricane, companies must still exercise caution and request Background Checks on employees.  These retain backgrounds are even more important in the aftermath of a hurricane.  An online services will not provide employers with the most up to date information. 

 

Some employees seize this opportunity of chaos to seek employment outside of an area wherein they are facing criminal charges, a criminal history or active warrants.  These individuals bring their skills to our area for employment along with their troubled backgrounds.   To catch these types of employees, DLI does the following in all background checks:

  • Verify Social Security # and the addresses associated with that SS#.  This verification highlights any other areas outside of Louisiana or addresses provided to the employer that may need to be checked.

  • Thorough Background from seven years ago through present date.  Most online services have archived records which were not updated for a few years;  therefore, the information provided may not indicate any pending charges or recent charges.

  • Warrants - DLI doesn't just provide index information.  DLI pulls each criminal record to search for active warrants.  Most warrants would not be found without a search for the record.  Then DLI verifies the warrants through the parish sheriff's office.

Since hurricanes hit our area, DLI has found active warrants or pending criminal charges for about 40% of all background checks.   For example, one employee had checked off no arrests, no criminal charges and no pending criminal matters;  however, he was wanted on an aggravated rape charge wherein a warrant had issued for his arrest.  The charges and warrant were issued one month ago.   Do you want this person working for your?

Employee Theft
Employee theft can make an otherwise profitable business -- unprofitable. An employee theft investigation can lesson or eliminate altogether the amount of theft a company may be experiencing.


A typical investigation starts with the investigator thoroughly examining the existing condition of the business. First, we listen to the problems that you are experiencing. Often the greatest quantity of information comes from the home office. Second, we inspect the place of business, on-site. A thorough examination of the physical security of the workplace reveals the possible paths that merchandise and money can take to exit the premises. Once this initial examination is over, we propose a course of action to counter the problem. Often, we must insert someone inside of the place of business (as a customer or employee) to identify the parties involved. Every effort is made to record illegal activity on videotape. In the event that quarter are too close for even our most secretive equipment, our investigators are trained to give the report in a narrative form that is completely admissible as evidence.

Mystery Shopper
Mystery Shopper is an objective look at your operation through the eyes of a customer. Our employees enter your business as ordinary customers, make purchases and provide you with a detailed evaluation of the experience. Videotaped documentation of the mystery shopping experience is also available.
